1954 "Milan Miracle" Semi-Final and Championship Screening
Time & Location
About The Event
Hoosier Hysteria is timeless, and nothing evokes a more nostalgic reminder than the 1954 "Milan Miracle" basketball state championship tournament that inspired "Hoosiers". In honor of Indiana's special relationship with the game of basketball, the Indiana Theatre is very proud to present a special screening of the fully restored game films of the 1954 Indiana High School Basketball Tournament Semi-Final and State Championship games.
While we all celebrate Milan's magical story that has touched the hearts of Hoosiers and inspired underdogs everywhere, we would also like to pay special homage to our hometown Terre Haute Gerstmeyer which fell just short of winning the State title in the Championship game with South Bend Central in 1953 and the Semi-Final game with Milan in 1954. The legacy and accomplishments of those Gerstmeyer teams remain an integral part of Indiana high school basketball history.
The Indiana Theatre would also like to specially honor the dedication of film preservationist Eric Grayson who has painstakingly preserved and restored the original game films of this irreplaceable and priceless part of Indiana's state heritage. His passion and gift to Indiana has ensured that the real events of 1954 are forever memorialized for generations to come.
If you loved the movie and you love basketball in a way that only Hoosiers can truly understand, this will be an evening that you don't want to miss!
